Just reading all this makes me wonder . Do train drivers in these sections ever have problems with car headlight on full beam. There's a back road near me which is a few feet from the ECML and I must say I always dip my headlights if a train is coming the other way . I dont think the trains can do likewise tho lol .

On the Midland Mainline just south of Market Harborough station, there's a short section of road on the down side where oncoming headlights give you a bit of gip for a few seconds, if you hapen to be approaching a red on the adjacent signal gantry it could cause a problem.

Just after leaving Petersfield on the Down Portsmouth Direct the line runs adjacent to the A3

As you come out of Fareham station heading for Pompey/Havant is quite good I suppose. I always enjoy it, anyways. Also, there is a road bridge running pretty much parallel (at height) with the rail line, but I think the traffic runs in the opposite direction.

Section Between Chester and Wrexham Genral is one though it may be a B road not too sure thogh it does run along side the Railway line for a bit of a distance.

Its the A483 trunk road, Swansea to Chester, also known locally as the Wrexham By pass. It was the reason for singling the rail track.
It runs near to the track between Rossett & the under-bridge.

South of Bletchley at Stoke Hammond the WCML parallels the A4146 for about 5 miles.

I think there should be more roads by raillines, it would show car drivers how much quicker trains are than their cars.

Edinburgh - Stirling by train takes between 50 and 55 minutes,
In the car, I can do it in 45.

Works for places in Worcestershire; and going to Birmingham: 30mins (train) 50mins (car)

The A56 (Bridgewater Way) leading from Old Trafford to Mcr City Centre is parallel to the Liverpool-Manchester (via Warrington) line as can be seen from the link below:

It's also possible to have a three-way race with the Metrolink at one point near Cornbrook!

I used to enjoy the replacement bus service along that route whenever they were doing up Bo-Peep tunnel. Made a nice change now and again.

North of Darlington, you can see the railway from the A1M, but this is a bit further away.

You can get some speed up in your car down that section of the A67 round Urlay Nook. Often outrun a Pacer down there! ( the pacer must clearly be going less than the legal road speed limit! )

Had a cracking race yesterday with the 0715 KGX-CBG on the A505 pretty much all the way from Baldock to Royston. Then a roundabout got in the way. Hope the speed cameras weren't on.

The A505 is a great road. There are cameras in some places, especially at the bits of it that head towards the A1(M)!

M6 and WCML from south of Penrith past Shap and Tebay to Lowgill.

And again from north of Penrith towards Carlisle.

I once followed the Stobart Tesco container train all through the above stretches.

Not in the UK, but there is a long stretch of the E40 in Belgium that runs alongside a railway for miles and miles.

I've beaten trains down there

I can get a lift to Glasgow in almost exactly an hour, a full 30 mins more by train (from Fife)

Just outside Hull you get a decent race with cars on the A63 which runs parallel. You could also have a 3-way race with a ship on the Humber at this point!

I agree. It's an excellent line. I can get some good photos of the East Coast and Grand Central HSTs on it as well.

I always find it quite amusing between Thornaby and Middlesbrough where the train meets the A66 - cars often going the same speed as the train!
