Motor Connections

Hi guys, I recently found the remenants of my old train set in the loft. I found a Hornsby OO scale virgin HST but the motor has come out of where it should be and was wondering if anyone knows where the red and black wires go to on the motor?

I don't think it matters too much. Hook it up and test run it. If it goes the opposite direction to the one you expect, swap the connections over and it should correct it.

The red wire will go to one of the motor terminals (the silvery tabs) and the black will go to the other. Depending on the exact motor design, it may not matter which way round they go, however, older Hornby designs pick up power through the metal bogie blocks and this could cause a short if the wires are the wrong way round.

Basically, if it doesn't run, it is the wrong way round, if it does run they may still be the wrong way round (it could be noticeable if the locomotive has directional head lights) but it may not matter.
