Hopefully right area to ask!

Hoping to go up and try out a few 455s before they are all finally withdrawn. Living down south (but on SWR network), means a journey up to Guildford/Waterloo*, before getting on some 455s.

Now what is the best way to do this? Is it a case of getting ticket to Guildford/Waterloo, getting off, buying new ticket to somewhere? Or is there some sort of multi route ticket?

*depending on routes being run

Thanks!

Assuming you are beyond Guildford, which your stated location suggests you are, an out boundary Travelcard?

Travel via Guildford, pick up a 455 diagram to Waterloo from there ( if one available by either route ) and do the rest of the bashing within the zones? You'd have the possibility of Waterloo - Guildford via either route on a 455 on the way back as well, if one is available, before changing for your Portsmouth service home.

Thanks!

Not familiar with the boundary Travelcard, is that like unlimited travel in the London zones 1-6? Do they sell these in the machines, or do I need to ask in the booking office?

A day travelcard issued from a station outside the London zones is essentially a day return to anywhere within the zones plus unlimited travel in the zones on all Rail, Tube, Bus, Tram, DLR.

Anytime, Off-peak, Super offpeak versions are available depending on location. Any Routing restrictions only apply on the return journey part outside the zones

From Portsmouth, look under Travelcard:
