The 06:25 Hull Trains hull to London service always has about a 12 min wait at Retford while East Coast trains thunder pass to get into Kings Cross at super speed.

I didn't think they [Super Voyagers] were allowed to run at 125 on the GWML?

As I understand it 221 stock can travel at "HST" speed limts, and at "EPS" speed limits (with their tilt equipment enabled).

HST speed limits will of course be present on the GWML.

Is this because they need to slot the half hourly XC service between the 20/40 minute Virgin service through Stoke?

(I genuinley don't know the answer, but the 20/40 minute Virgin service must cause a headache when trying to fit half hourly services around)

You might be right there actually.

Just checked on a journey planner, the one which takes an extra 9 minutes is the one which follows the VT through Stoke. Come to think of it, it often pauses at Stone for a minute or two (presumably allowing the Pendolino through) and a wait at the signal before Stoke isn't uncommon either.

It is a flat 125 down the GWML on the mains, no differentials until after Box I think. Apart from the Voyager limitation... The reliefs have a MU diff up to Reading though.
