My vote is on the West Coast Main Line between London to Liverpool, Chester and Manchester.

eg Liverpool to London restriction code 2c,
I like the 7.20 time, very well chosen time as it is impossible to arrive London Euston from Liverpool before this time with the first train arriving shortly after and thus being classed as peak. So peak is all morning to 11.30 with a brief break to 3pm when peak is back on to 6.45pm with the first train out being 7.07 and they wonder why its busy.

I think London Midland's Super Off-Peak restrictions would probably be a winner here:

Not valid to arrive in London before 13:00 (Monday to Saturday on some flows!), not valid on Northbound services before 10:30, and not valid for services departing the origin on the ticket between 16:30 and 19:30.

East Coast "win" in terms of their evening peak restrictions for Super Off-Peaks leaving Kings Cross though...15:00 - 18:59, or just shy of four hours! Ditto Great Western, at 15:02 - 19:00 from Paddington.

That's no co-incidence...

In the case of Savers, these are required to be valid for no less than a month, and to be valid all day Saturday and Sunday and from no later than 10:30 on any other day. They need not be valid for any journey beginning between 15:00 and 19:00 on Mondays to Fridays from London area stations or (when travelling away from London) stations between London and Reading, Watford, Luton or Stevenage, inclusive.

Presumably a case where they've made the Super Off-Peak the regulated fare and introduced a new Off-Peak in between the regulated price and the Anytime.

On some flows—I forget which ones—Super Offpeak fares are not valid at all from Monday to Friday, meaning the peak period lasts for 24 hours a day. :P


This is of course because of Simplification, meaning that you can't have a ticket called a Weekend Return (for instance) any more.

I think XC have a pretty good stab at it with off-peak tickets not being valid on any train which departs before 0930. With the distance some of their services travel, that can pretty much wrap up an entire day.

If you can't comply with Virgin's off-peak times, you will pay more than three times the price.
