Most loco classes at a depot

Dont think this has been covered before. Over the years many depots have seen a good variety of loco classes but perhaps Leicester is one of the best for variety with 26 recorded classes on normal depot visits, 30 different classes incl Open Days

Any more depots out there claiming so much variety???

Would be interesting to know what the 26 classes were on a normal visit. Are we talking 26 at a given visit or over a period of time ?

Working on a time scale till present many depots would be in with a shout. Thought you meant a single visit.

The Shed Bash website shows 32 different steam classes plus two diesel on York north shed on 23 August 1959

It might be better to rephrase the question as “how many diesel / electric” classes are recorded simultaneously at the same depot? Then there’s the question of whether bound only for scrapping, and not in service, should be counted.

I would have thought 10 or more classes simultaneously would be very good.

Gateshead might be a good contender. I would expect there must have been some days (Sundays inevitably) in the 1970s with most of the following:

24s were long gone from the north east before the first 56 turned up, and 25s were a rarity (as were 20s).

I don't think Stratford ever had a 22 allocation, though it might well have had some of the 21s there. And the 23s?

But in terms of the original question you need to look at what could be seen stabled there, not just allocated
so you'd need to add virtually all of the GW hydraulic classes working over the NLL on freight, 46 Peaks from the NE, 45 Peaks on interregional transfers from the Midland, probably 25, good bet the 26/27 got there when new. That would take you to around 22, then throw in D2999 as well

There were also quite a few unclassified shunters either allocated or visiting statford works, also 56's, 57's, 86's

Yes, sorry, Class 21s. I tend to muddle them, before my time! It always amazes me when I see pics of them on the LTS. So far removed from my trainspotting experiences at Barking in the late 70s.

And yes, pretty much anything could end up at Stratford. It certainly stored all the withdrawn 23s.
David Brennand's books on East End traction/diesels have photos of virtually every class there.

All sorts used to turn up.
