So when I get on the train find one of only a few seats left, the family jumped on just before me and sat across 2 bays of table seats that already had 4 people in situ as the train had arrived from Folkestone

How is that annoying? The family of 4 were sitting together and filling up the unused space efficiently?

I am annoyed that anyone buys new trains without a corridor connection.

Drivers, with much improved cab visibility, would disagree.

I wish the self scan tills had a STFU button. I can actually read the screen.
The ones in Tesco have a volume button at the bottom of the screen which mutes it completely. One of the self service checkout supervisors in my local Tesco has quite abruptly told me off several times now for using it but as I always say to him, why is is there if you’re not allowed to use it?

You are (usually) a middle-aged businessman with a coat, a bag, and - if it's raining - an umbrella. How long on average does it take you to deal with these - whilst blocking the aisle - and sit down? If the answer is "longer than it takes for me to do half the Hard Sudoku puzzle in today's Metro" you are doing something very wrong, and doing it surprisingly often :{

Unfortunately too many double standards. If they do it to the nearest man it's just a laugh but I am sure if someone did it back to them they would file a court case against them. I wish we would all respect the same rules and not pick and choose when we obey them.

When the hen parties get off the trains at Liverpool Lime Street it's time to run for cover.

With the hens waving about inflatable penises, and the hen adorned with condoms stuck all over her. It's enough to make a grown man blush, so goodness knows what parents tell their children when they witness this behaviour!

On one occasion at Lime Street someone on a hen party walked up behind a man on the station concourse in broad daylight, stuck her hand between his legs, and groped him.

It's all a bit of a laugh though, but if a man had done that to a woman he would have been pinned to the floor until the BTP arrived!

At a guess, because it mutes the annoucements he's listening out for. Unknown item in the bagging area etc.

I'm surprised they have volume controls, and not surprised using it looks suspicious.

The solution to not liking self service checkouts (I don't like them) is to not use them.

The staff are alerted by the Red/Yellow/Green lights above, not by the sounds.

Haha my local Tesco is a contradiction to that, the staff don't like anyone who un mutes the self service tills!!

It's usually that sort of person who stands in the aisle while faffing around with their stuff, with no consideration that their backside is practically in the face of the person seated in the opposite aisle. And then swings their coat around oblivious to the swiping effect on anyone within range.

My pet hate, one I always have to at least try to move seats from, is people who stink of smoke sitting nearby. It's obviously on their clothes, but it turns my stomach.

Not an "on the train" one, but people who don't observe the "stand to the right" convention on escalators, and either block both sides by standing in the middle, or a couple who simply have to ride up or down them side by side. Actually that is the one that really gets my goat, I have been known to insinuate myself past the culprit/s and remark "you should stand on the right, keep the left clear". Mostly I just get blank looks.

Desiro (non-disabled access) toilets have a sliding door, and adjacent seats.

There is a special place reserved in hell for people who, having used the facility, then leave the door open as they swan back to their distant seats leaving other passengers looking at a toilet floor.

Just shut the door.

Quietly but firmly.

Non-closure of toilet doors is one I personally find quite humorous to watch people get disproportionately angry about :)

Reasonably so. I don't want to be sitting there smelling someone's **** because they were too lazy to spend half a second closing it.

Or when you lift the toilet lid, to find that the previous user/s haven't flushed it, or several successive users have filled it with unmentionable substances and half a ton of loo roll. How hard is it to flush a loo? It's the same in public toilets all over - even the proximity flush ones, people don't bother. <D

Some people are just lazy, though it doesn't help when the button is hidden down the back of the lid (I know that's to make you close the lid, but it also makes you not see it), or when it's not obvious that the proximity button (the purpose of which seem to be to give you an automatic bidet service) actually is the flush.

FWIW, I note it has now been realised that the most intuitive way to do the lock is to have a big switch you physically throw across. Why not similarly a flush handle - something people are familiar with?

You would think the sliding door mechanism would automatically close it through a spring return action. I'm sure it works like that on Virgin trains. Some of them are so tightly sprung you can hardly open them enough to get in there!

Edit: Or maybe not Virgin, I can't remember which trains I'm thinking of now. GWR perhaps?
