most infrequent DOO services

There are several Scottish branches that are DOO with an hourly service such as Wemyss Bay and Ardrossan. However they do normally have a ticket inspector on board.

However during the peaks it's possible to do the journey at least twice an hour by changing at Stevenage.

Is the 05xx Liverpool Street Saturday only service DOO?

b) As per the above timings, yes it is marked as DOO!

So how does once a week sound?

It couldn't not be DOO, as having a guard for a once-a-week route knowledge/traction clearance retention service when every other service on the Lee Valley lines is DOO would be, um, impractical?

The FCC Cambridge to Kings Lynn service is hourly except in the peaks (which is more frequent: every 30 minutes)

The Thames Turbo services between Oxford and Banbury are i think less than hourly and DOO

They are every two hours for most of the day. There is a once a day Oxford - Banbury calling all stations ran by Chiltern too, though that might be a bit of a cheat answer because it's exactly the same as the FGW services as far as the passengers are concerned.

The DOO 1601 Streatham Hill - London Bridge is the only public passenger service to be scheduled to run over the Leigham Spur. This route is only covered once per weekday by this specific train, and it's only covered in one direction. Therefore, I nominate this service!

Chiltern do the same thing - their local trains can run DOO at all stations between Banbury and Marylebone, but not at Paddington, so their "parliamentaries" into/out of Paddington, despite not leaving zone 6, carry conductors

So the _station_ with the most infrequent doo service, Bayford is my suggestion, but possibly the Thames branches win?

Is the Bicester Town line DOO for passenger trains? If it is, that must be a contender - generally much less than hourly currently. Bayford is 3tph, isn't it?

I would think a station like Appleford or Tackley had an inferior service to Bayford or Bicester town

What about Heyford, Tackley and Kings Sutton? They're well short of an hourly service.

3tph weekdays or 2tph weekends, which is way too much, it's hardly used compared to the rest of the line

Although Bayford only gets 2tph in the peaks. Bayford (and Crews Hill) must be fairly unusual in getting a better off-peak service than the peak service.

How do the trains get to Paddington if they don't leave Zone 6?

I may be wrong but don't FCC use a very small link of conductors on this service between Ely and Kings Lynn only?

If you look at this RAIB report in to the overhead de-wiring at Littleport (http://www.raib.gov.uk/cms_resources.cfm?file=/130520_R062013_Littleport.pdf), there is no reference to any Railway staff other than the Driver being on the train.

Yes i have seen ticket inspectors on quite a few trains between Cambridge and kings Lynn but not all

Those are RPIs (revenue protection inspectors), not guards; all they do is tickets. And they're not on every train.

I did of course mean to say Watton at Stone as my suggestion - though other suggestions are much more valid.

I remember a while ago seeing the London to brighton express services were diverted via lewes on weekends not sure if doo was allowed on this route though .

Not sure about what southerns policy would be but DOO is allowed on that diversion as FCC use that diversion aswell and they can only operate DOO (they may insist on a second staff member but it wouldn't be a guard).

As for the earlier post about kings Lynn having guards, I believe the line went DOO when it was electrified and 365s started running through from London. I'm not sure off hand if kings Lynn-Cambridge went DOO before or after Finsbury park-Moorgate did.

Cheers for the info ,i do remember reading a magazine article when it was all WAGN toc it said the last bit on that network to go doo was Drayton park to moorgate in 1995 i think

That would have still been NSE - WAGN didn't start until 1997.
