Hi All. As the title suggests, what is the most expensive ticket in the database? Please don't include a Zones 1-6 add-on. I'll kick off with this one:

Berwick-Upon-Tweed - London Kings Cross £19,608 (Standard Class) or £33,332 (1st Class)

£33,776 for a 1st Class Penzance to Paddington season

£33,776 for a 1st Class Penzance to Paddington season

Put into context, that makes last year's £10,900 seem quite good value at 50 mins vs 5 hrs. I can't see the above price being beaten, but a determined commuter can still spend several hrs in London getting the 05:05 out and 18:03 back daily!

Is it likely there are any daily commmuters Penzance-London?

You would only need to do the journey once or twice a week and that is cheaper than the SORs or FORs. Of course advances would be even cheaper than a season but if you want flexibility or the ability to travel at the drop of a hat then it makes sense. Also that would include sleeper on either the cushions or with a supplement a berth so you could sleeper up to London and then normal service back (or vice versa).

It isn't possibly daily but a couple of times a week sure.

Hypothetical of course but wouldn't the first class commuter from Penzance be better off buying 26 two week ALRs? Aren't they around a £1000 each?

The time restrictions would prove extremely inconvenient, I'd imagine, and probably render this product useless for commuting.

Edit: On second thought, are there actually any time restrictions which would affect this journey?

Twenty-six 2-week First Class ALRs would cost £25,740. I'm beginning to think you have made a good point here! Especially if one is eligible for a Railcard discount on the ALR..

Schh, this is why time restrictions got introduced in the first place. ;)
By people telling others that there aren't any restrictions?

I thought it would have been because those services would be overcrowded or something similar...

And you could shuffle them round a bit to get the most value- remove a couple of weeks, move some so you only get weekends covered when you want etc... a fair bit of savings :D

See this rather enlightning FOI.

IIRC railcard discounts were only extended to HMF railcards to off set the bad publicity.

Ok... But I only told them something that they could of easily found out anyways...

I think it was more to stop people using them as season tickets.

But they cost £990 for a two-week first class ALR... Costing (as mentioned earlier) £25,740.

Old Price before today's fare changes. :)

New Price is £1,040 for 2week 1st Class ALR

Heh you wouldnt need to buy 26 of these because you'll get 4 or 5 weeks off work as annual leave...

Which is even more bizarre as any intelligent person will buy ALR's instead of a Season ticket, as it is cheaper and they could use it anywhere in the country too!

Yes..
there is a person i know, that travels up on the sleeper,
and gets the 1903 back to Penzance,
He does this 3 days a week
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
With the added bonus of being able to go anywhere in the country as well

this is true, but dont they have "restrictions" ie, can not be used durin peak times etc

I posted the restrictions earlier in this thread... Only affects a few TOCs.
