Most changes for one journey?

Anyone out there know what the most changes is to complete one logical journey?

For example Barton Upon Humber to Garswood is 4/5 changes always. Surely there are journeys that need 6 or 7?

Do bus and tube count?
I'm not thinking of specific journeys, but in general the sort of journeys you're talking about are likely to be:
stopping train - fast train - stopping train.

Split that fast train in london with two tube changes and you've got a lot of changes, for example
Aldrinton - Hove (all stations stopper)
Hove - London Bridge (relatively fast, no service past London Bridge due to Thameslink project)
London Bridge - Baker Street (Jubilee)
Baker Street - Paddington (Circle)
Paddington - Bristol (fast)
Bristol - Abbey Wood (stopper)

In this case you'd probaby just get the direct Hove - Abbey Wood instead, but I'm sure someone can find any equivilent route south - north that doesn't have an equivilent like that. Might be able to make it to 7 if you also need a change in the midlands between fast trains.

I assume excluding changes, by simply getting off one train then waiting for the next

The most I have seen is 6
Tain - Hutton Cranswick
Tain - Hove
Tain - Looe
For these journeys an overnight stay is required en-route!

You can cut this to 5 if you get one of the 2 direct trains to/from Gillingham.

Surely then you'd change at Gillingham to get the train you would from Sittingbourne

Sometimes, the quickest journey from Loughborough to Liverpool Lime Street requires 3 changes and three different TOCs.
Loughborough to Leicester(EMT)
Leicester to Nuneaton(XC)
Nuneaton to Stafford (LM)
Stafford to Liverpool(LM or Virgin)
Quickest time is about 2.40.

I suppose it would, but I assumed from Ryan's post that you'd have to change at Gillingham either way

Cambridge-Stirling (NOT LONDON) can easily vary between a single change and four, varying on time of day:
Single- XC to Peterborough, East Coast Highland Chieftan
Four: to Ely (either NXEA or FCC), then Peterborough (NXEA or EMT), East Coast for two trains (changing at Doncaster) then Scotrail from Edinburgh

I do. That made me try Abbey Wood - Abbey Wood (Filton), which is 4 changes (5 trains) including 2 tubes.
Beltring - Abbey Wood (Filton) pushes that up to 5 changes, which is the same as my Aldrinton example.
Aldrinton - Abbey Wood in Kent is "only" 2 changes.

Sorry, I didn't add anything more as I was on my mobile.

Yes, 99% of train services from Sheerness terminate at Sittingbourne, only the 0500 GLM-SIT and 2132 SSS-GLM miss out Sittingbourne and go via the Western Junction rather than the Eastern Junction - there is no other route to the mainline!

Hope this clears up any confusion.

alternativley you could do the above journey with just 3 changes, st ives - st erth, st erth - bhm new street, then walk 2 bhm snow hill (5mins approx) bhm snow hill - stourbridge jn, stourbridge jn - stourbridge twn

I am a bit confused about the rules here because it is always going to be possible to add extra changes late at night, early in the morning, or because of engineering.

In the example above Crewe - Cardiff should count as direct surely?

I am really struggling to get past 5 for any journey.

An example of adding changes...

Colne - Blackburn - Manchester Victoria - Leeds - Gargrave (has 3)
Colne - Blackburn - Manchester Victoria - Bradford Interchange - Bradford Forster Square - Skipton - Gargrave (takes it to 5 and might be quicker)
