Interesting you say that, I travel on Sundays most weeks and the service is almost always a double set, and the service I see passing me at the local station is normally double too. Are the services on route VT2 normally single units then?

I don't know what I'd say is the most attractive. Bristol Temple Meads from the outside looks nice, could be a castle :p, but on the inside I'm not a big fan, the concourse looks a bit crowded and the Travel Centre building spoils it. The trainshed roof is quite dirty too. Manchester Picc is a very good station in terms of passenger facilities, but I wouldn't say it was asthetically pleasing.

I'm quite a big fan of modern buildings and stations, using glass, concrete (but not the awful way they did things in the 60s). Not on National Rail I know, but I quite like Canary Wharf Tube.

Bournemouth/Brighton - the north routes are invariable 5-car Super Vomits.

There are a few 9 cars around, and 10 cars have to be "approved"! :shock:

Is that to do with reversing difficulties at Reading (ie: having to use a 'through' platform) rather than a bay or is there just not the demand on those services compared to SW-North services on VT1/VT3?

Pretty much - most services reverse in the bay platforms... however 9 coach services & some evening services reverse in the down relief platform...

Interestingly, during the Summer when the Reading avoiders are planned, I think 1 of the 2 trains that do it are booked 9 coach.

I wish the P'way wouldn't graffiti over platform edges and infrastructure like that.

Like their pot plants don't they. Probably be banned down here under Elf 'n' Safety - trip hazard.

They had plants in the centre of Andover station (between the tracks). Don't think they ever got wattered though for obvious reasons and didn't live for very long.

It's that Elf and his safety again. Stafff are no longer allowed to get down and water them like they used to.

It's the reason why we have a footbridge at the end of P4 at Bomo to reach the middle sidings. Don't trust you despite having a PTS to cross a 25mph line.

Sorry - but if you're too dopey to complete that task you shouldn't be on the railway.

Wymondham did that last year for their entry for the Anglia in Bloom station award, However one requirement is that the display must be safe and because they had overloaded the platform with pots they got kicked out!

There used to be a beautiful display all along the interior canopy at Weymouth - all done and paid for by one of the platform staff.

He even rigged up a watering system so theywere all watered at the same time.

Then the station manager took away his stepladder under H&S so now Weymouth just looks 'orrible.

It's probably just people's misinterpretation of H&S laws and the fear they're going to get sued. I'm a 'Station Adopter' at a FGW (unstaffed) station and the area station manager at my Safety Brief said there were no problems climbing a ladder to do painting or anything to do with hanging baskets as long as I was wearing the HiVis and had someone else with me to hold the ladder in place.

Dolau station on the Heart of Wales line is very picturesque! They've made it look like a vintage station, and its a shame it only sees a few trains a day.

Also its set in a nice part of Powys too!

The inside of Sheffield is nothing to get excited about, but it's quite nice outside now that Sheaf Square has been renovated.
