Hi

Is there anyone from up north who uses the Bolton to Salford Crescent line know why the length of the south bound platform was shortened. I've been meaning to ask for ages. about 20 feet was lopped off the end of the platform just after they built some new houses behind. if you go on www.bing.com and do birds eye view you'll see what i mean.

the shortened platform means that it'll no longer take four car sets. talk about a retrograde step:(

cheers
Dave.

It was set on fire years ago if memory serves me. The platform is only wooden and for whatever reason it was never rebuilt.

The station building was torched one night in 88/89, destroying the building completely, this may have also affected what you say. Couldn't they use SDO for 4-car sets anyway?

SDO is not fitted to Northern diesels.

Is it fitted to anything of Northern's? The only units that might have would be 323s or 333s I guess?

The 180s had the SDO disabled when the door controls were moved to the luggage van to enable the Guard to work the doors - it wasn't needed for the lines they work on anyway. None of the diesel fleet has SDO, neither do the 323s but I've no idea if the 333s have it.

Would of been handy for Woodsmoor where they can only open the local door in the middle coach, as the 1423 ex Preston can dispense quite a few passengers there.
