Mortlake to Gatwick via Clapham Junction

I am travelling from Mortlake to Gatwick with my elderly parent and was wondering if we need to be sitting at the front or the back of the train from Mortlake to make the easiest change at Clapham Junction? We will need best access for the lifts to the footbridge with limited transfer time.

Rear of the train - the footbridge at Clapham Junction is at the west end of the station.

The extreme rear of a London-bound train - the lifts, which give access to the footbridge, are at the country end of the Windsor Line platforms. For Gatwick, you will need to cross to platform 13.
