24 More Waratah trains have been ordered for the Sydney Trains network to add 4 extra Services per Hour Sydney to Parramatta this will also involve a recast of the timetable. This shouldn't see the withdrawal of the S class as these are extra's?? but there is also an option for 45 Extra Waratah's

Just seen that there will be a express between the CBD and Parramatta roughly every 3 mins. Thats quite impressive.

don't fall for the political hype.
The contract is for 24 'A' class trainsets with options for 45 more. The builder claims they will be 90% compatible with existing 'A' sets. This means some updating technically.

4 more trains on the City-Parramatta line is about as much capacity as remains available. The new order will NOT mean a train every 3 minutes.

All carsets dating before 1980 manufacture will be able to be withdrawn. This is unlikely to commence before 2019.

The trains in Syndey are probably equivalent to the sub-surface routes of London Underground (Met, Hammer & City, District, Circle) but using double-decker trains

Suburban runs are longer than 40kms to the western termini. An 8 car set has seats for 950 passengers plus just as much standing room. Passenger loadings from the outer suburbs, from all directions, is heavy during peak hours thus the express services mentioned earlier. The timetables for them provide a clear run of about 16 miles from Redfern (the 1st station after Central) to Parramatta. With 6 tracks available for half the distance and 4 tracks nearly all of the way to Penrith the drivers can open them out.

For suburban working there is nothing in the UK that is in any way comparable.
