Just noticed that everything before 29th September now off their board due to continuing ASLEF driver action against freight operator DBS including, damn it, my trip to Scarborough on 22nd September. What is the reason for the dispute?

They've quietly gotten rid of them off the website. Have you heard for definite that your trip to Scarborough is cancelled? There was a rumour that the Snowdonian tour the day before was to be operated by DRS instead.

The Snowdonian the day before is definitely cancelled. Got my my letter yesterday, with the offer of a full refund or tranferring to the 26th October "Snowdon Mountain and Llanberis Lake Railway" tour, which now includes a one way option on the FR and WHR. I feel so sorry for UKRailtours, must be costing them an arm an a leg, plus also the WHR as I had previously noted they had cancelled their trains on the 21st, presumably to make way for the UKRailtour special.

DBS thought that downsizing their staff complement, relocating everyone and cutting costs would lead to drivers picking up a shed load of overtime and voluntarily working rest days.

Now drivers are pretty much instructed to work to rule and not work rest days. Result is DBS look set to lose a lot of their work as they've constantly let almost of all their clients down.

Newsletter 27 from UK Railtours concerning the redating of the Grinkle Belle included the following:-

"Joining stations have been amended slightly as this train will also convey customers from the Castle Howard trip, recently postponed due the industrial action by ASLEF members."

This trip was the same one as the Scarborough trip on the 22nd.

Yes, it's cancelled; I got a letter from UKR yesterday which I picked up this morning as I was out yesterday. I understand from other sources that the O/T ban has now been lifted and an offer made. Too late for us, though.

One of the reasons for stricking now, is that a few of DBSs major contracts are coming up for grabs around this time, with Network Rail Infrastructure & RHTT contracts up for grabs. Indeed, the NW RHTT has now been lost to GBRF (This will use MPVs).
