More problems at Berlin Brandenburg airport

Looks like another load more delays.

Berlin desperately needs a new airport. I fly through SXF mainly around once a month and the place is very dated and bursting at the seams. There's literally no space to sit, no real food options, such congestion moving around I've nearly missed flights trying to get to the gates.

Considering the growth berlin is seeing as a city, not having a new airport before what looks like 2020 is going to be really bad news.

The never ending airport saga of Berlin. Political corruption, poor planning, poor construction, poor compliance - it's all there. It seems the politicians live on another planet in Brandenburg to the rest of Germany.

They could look at Munich's Terminal 2 for how a world class airport should be designed, constructed and operated. Or have brought in Fraport from Frankfurt, who's services have employed in the construction and operation of other successful airport projects in places like Bulgaria.

I agree about Schönefeld, it's like something out of a Cold War thriller crossed with London Luton circa 1997. The part of Tegel I travelled through last year (I think Terminal C) was essentially a giant shed and had all the comfort of one.

Tegan is so weird. Maybe it reflects how air travel was done years ago. You arrive, check in, drop bags, walk through your own security check and nearly miss the passport check (if leaving Schengen area) as they're hidden away in a tiny booth behind check in.

Considering the growth berlin is seeing as a city, not having a new airport before what looks like 2020 is going to be really bad news.

They should ask VW to help with the fire/smoke systems, wiring diagnostics etc so they pass the necessary checks.

Never used Tegel, but Schoenefeld terminal A (not sure which airlines normally use it, but easyJet were using it to clear crowds on Friday) has the curious arrangement whereby hold luggage is X-rayed before you join the queue to check in rather than after. Very rare to have it that way in Europe these days.

Schoenefeld generally is a total embarrassment, not befitting of a modern European capital city. The railway station is a disgrace - graffiti, smelling of urine, run down, poor passenger information, broken displays, weeds, insufficient ticket machines that don't take credit cards except two of them (and no signs to indicate this), security guards rather than staff to help passengers. DB should be embarrassed about it. I know it's planned to close, but it isn't acceptable.

Reminds me of Barcelona airport station, which is similarly disgusting but at least has some staff.

Yes, the main terminal at Tegel is a relic from the past, designed for passengers to be dropped off almost outside their boarding gate, with all the formalities taking place in a small space so no walking. Great idea back then, with the volume of passengers now and all the changes, it becomes chaotic.

The other Terminal, that I passed through last year, is a giant shed separate from the old terminal, mostly for flights with Air Berlin and friends within Schengen.
