1A41 1335 Manchester - Euston appears to have been blocking the UML near to Macclesfield since around 1400.

Its unclear what the problem is - one source says OLE defect, another says train defect.

Up trains diverted via Crewe with the Stoke locals cancelled. Down trains now running booked route...

Train fault with added coupling issues necessitating the need for a class 57 to rescue it.

I passed the retrieved Pendolino, with a 57 attached at the south end, on a London train last night, whilst it was sitting in platform 2 at Macc. OTT showed it as 5H88, and according to RTT, it was booked to move around half six, though it was after that when I saw it.

It's still there now, as shown by OTT, with Up traffic being worked around it through platform 3.

It must be one hell of a fault to have kept it from being moved all night.

Issues with the 57 rather than the train I believe. No spare driver to grab 2nd 57 until this morning.

There's a '1Z99' in P0 at Stockport on OTT, been there for a while. I presume that might be related.

edit - And which has just set off and is following a stopper towards Macc.

The 57 was struggling to get above 3mph whilst dragging 390128. I believe the initial plan was to move it into Stoke for a run around, then drag it to Longsight.

5H88 now on the move towards Stoke, with 1A25 following 1 signal behind. Not moving particularly fast, judging by OTT.

At least it's only another VT service that's being delayed. ;)

edit - 5H88 has been in MD116 berth a suspiciously long time, and now 1018 (XC) has joined the fray.

Another set of OHLE problems near Runcorn this afternoon.
Didn't last too long, though.
Virgin diverted 3 Liverpool trains via Earlestown and then resumed the direct route.
What was impressive was they lost only 9 minutes on the diversion.

I saw a video posted elsewhere earlier if a Pendolino with two 57's in the front. Was this the same service?

Its always nice to know the name / fleet number of any failed Pendelinos (390128 in this case ) as the headcodes mean nothing to me ; a casual reader but frequent user of 390s, usually Preston to Euston or Glasgow x

Incidentally, I was on diverted 1000 , 390136, Preston to Euston yesterday . It was diverted at
via Chat Moss and Man Piccadilly due to failed freight train near Acton Grange. Very unusual to go non-stop through Man Picc and Stockport !

Do you mean Acton Bridge? Trying to think where Acton Grange is if not...?

Acton Grange Jn is the name of the junction where the WCML and the Warrington-Chester lines diverge.
It's also where the 4-track WCML becomes 2-track going south, and is the name of the viaduct over the Manchester Ship Canal.
There's probably a link to Acton Bridge a few miles south, as part of the old landowning system in the area.
Not to be confused with another Acton in Cheshire, a village near Nantwich.

It is impressive.

Very good that the railway manages this these days. It is a way that things have improved.
