Just out of curiosity,... where is that. i initially thought Heworth-Wardley area, but i am not so sure?

It was taken at Pelaw, looking east from the Metro station footbridge.

Ive, never noticed the loops before whilst passing on the train. Thats what had me confused. what uses them as they look well used?

Mainly the GBRF coal trains which come in from Tyne Dock and run round to go down the Durham coast and vice versa, but other freight to/from Sunderland and the Jarrow oil trains also use them occasionally.
