Lancaster is my local station and it’s wonderful. The staff are lovely and the pub is brilliant.

It looks like Avanti are now going to be putting in an Indian restaurant as well on a platform I’ve never been on.

It looks AMAZING as well!

Lancaster just gets better and better. There won’t be a better station on the planet when all the work gets done!

I love it.

What do you all think?

Will there be an accessible way of getting there? Wasn't the lack of a lift one if the factors in 6 mostly being used only if 5 was busy?

Lancaster is a great friendly station and always has been in my long experience and the pub was most welcome!. As for this it will be quite cut off won't it, will it be integrated into the station as such or just standalone from street level ?

6 hasn't been used since the 1970s I believe. When the WCML electrification reached Lancaster

I've thought about asking if I could do some weeding on platform 6, but as I'd only be quoted "Health and Safety," I've not bothered to. Understandable with platform 5 in use.

Correct. It was the old electric platform for the EMU to Green Ayre

Only access to that platform is from the side of the footbridge where the lifts are. No external street access. Will need some work to reopen the stairs

The quite wonderful plans show a stairlift and an accessible toilet!

I also spoke to the AMAZING staff who said a Changing Places facility is being built! Wonderful!

There might be an old goods lift there, but it won't have been used since the 1970s or earlier

Great to see the extra facilities at Lancaster station, the pub is fantastic.

Presumably with so many Northern cancellations on the Morecambe and Barrow lines, plus TransPennine cancellations business must be booming for the pub and the future Indian restaurant!

Wasn't aware there was now a boozer at Lancaster station, it's been a while since I was through and from memory the last time I was it was a very cold wet weight for a northbound pendo which thankfully only lasted the booked 13 minutes off a train from Leeds

Oh my goodness, a curry house - one would never need to leave the station !

Though the outside seats make Fainsa Sophias feel comfortable - the base is far too short, they're more like perches.
Worth giving the seats outside a clean with a wet wipe or hanky or whatever. Spilt beer is a hazard. Not sure if you would bother doing that with a Fainsa Sophia.

Wow! I love Lancaster station and the press do too!

https://www.beyondradio.co.uk/news/...on-waiting-rooms-for-restaurant-long-overdue/
A planning application was submitted last month to restore and alter the building to get it ready for a new tenant, ideally a restaurant.
"The Platform 6 refurbishment is designed for a flexible commercial use, but intended for the prefered tenant as a restaurant. The entrance staircase is reopened up from the ticket hall. The majority of the rest of the space is dedicated to restaurant seating, remaining fairly open as its orginal use as waiting rooms.

This is amazing. I really hope the council say yes!!

I wonder what else is in store for my favourite station!!

Lancaster station is the best station.

It’s had an amazing refurbishment. I love it! Now in heritage colours, a pub, painted footbridge, Changing Places, new lift and a curry house coming soon!!!

Even better, it’s getting new toilets.

So amazing. I am excited!!!

Article showing toilets
"The proposed site at Lancaster Station is the existing passenger toilets located throughout the station at platform level to platforms 3 and 4.

“The spaces proposed for refurbishment are the male toilets, female toilets and accessible toilets to both platforms.

“The proposal represents a routine upgrade of existing contemporary fabric, fixtures and fittings to the passenger toilets.

"The works do not alter the external appearance or facades of the existing building.

Yes, the station looks even better with the new dagger boards on the canopies. The loos are decent, but perhaps a little tired. They could do with binning the automatic flush as well.

Whatever happened to the curry house they were supposed to be opening there ?

Builders working on Lancaster's long abandoned platform 6 yesterday, jackhammering the floor of the main building.
Is this the start of building the promised curry house?

I was wondering what had become of the proposed curry house.

Definitely good news. I have taken a trip before to Stalybridge and York just to visit the taprooms/ beer places before , but now I will be able to get a train to Lancaster for a curry. Really great news.

Don't forget the pub on the opposite side too!

Will be interesting to see how the public will access the platform, as WH Smuggs is presently occupying the former access arch to it. And presumably either a lift or ramp will be required for wheelchair access.

For all the years I lived in Leeds, I never thought of Lancaster as a place to go for curry

A gate has been cut into the fence on the path which links the station with West Road/Castle Park. I don't know if this is for a permanent access to the restaurant and a path will be built into embankment or just temporary for works access but it wasn't there last week.

If you want to go somewhere specific for the purposes of going for a curry, it wouldn't be Lancaster. But most people who eat in a restaurant didn't go there specifically to do so, they are on holiday or a work trip in the city and are looking for somewhere to eat while already there.

There is a detailed architectural treatment as part of the planning application on the Lancaster planning portal, with pictures of the delapidated status quo and this floor plan. Access is via the existing stair, fitted with a 'platform stairlift', then along the platform. There is a gravel path but not for the customers.
