Moors Valley Railway Summer Gala 8/9th June

Hi All, I am not sure how many of you on here are narrow gauge fans or not but if you haven't visited Moors Valley Railway before then this is the event to go to. It is part of a country park so parking charges do apply but if you get there and spend the day travelling on the railway etc their rover ticket is great value.

It is expected that the railway will have 15 engines in steam, alongside a number of miniature traction engines, classic cars etc. It is a good day out for the whole family too so if they are not interested in railways then there is plenty else to occupy them! Thanks for this. Clashes with Crewe but see there is another special event in July and another gala in September so may attend. Been many decades since I last rode a country park line! Was at the Bure Valley Railway last week and was reminded how wonderful small lines came be.

It's not accessible by public transport, as far as I can see, but fortunately I'm only two hours drive away.

That is correct @E759, the July event will have a small selection of model railways on display, the chance to drive one of the engines for a fiver with all proceeds going to the Devon and Dorset Air Ambulance and you will be able to see behind the scenes as the engine shed, workshops etc will all be open to the public to view.

The September event is another gala but this doesn't have the traction engines etc however there will be some visiting railway locos on display.

With all due respect I think you mean the Dorset and Somerset air ambulance, a very worthy cause too .

Actually, the Moors Valley railway is best described as "minature narrow gauge", 7 1/4" with freelance locomotives, giving a much larger loco than a scale model.
Entry is by numberplate recognition, you pay at the carpark booth when you are leaving. To visit the gala for a half day will cost £11 parking and £9.95 rail rover ticket, although a footpath runs alongside the line and it is easy to walk the length.
The attraction of galas is that the railway has a large fleet of locos, normally 2 or 3 in use at slack times, such as winter weekends, but on gala days as most, if not all, will be in action

Lovely photo. Garrett is currently out of service, new boiler and bottom end overhaul required. Boiler is arriving at the end of this year so we are hopeful it will be back in service in the autumn of 2020.
