Moorgate closure: Stop press

I heard somebody say that it'll be 2011 before something happens with Moorgate...

But why use flash anyway? The results are always the same: poor quality. Far better to use a long exposure. I cannot understand why anyone would ever use flash photographing a train.

The classic one is when people use flash for an eclipse. As if their tiny bit of light is going to reach the moon!

But thats the point, LU did mind and actually threated to kick people off the station because if it, even going so far as making annoucements to that affect. FCC were operating under LU rules which also still applies to Farringdon.

Seems once again that 'fans' disreguard rules because they want the best picture etc. This attitude in todays world of health & safety will ruin it for future events. I had to have words with people on the very edge of platforms with their backs to the running lines at St Pancras for this reason. Think before acting as they will ruin it for all of us.

The train that everyone went on was the last passanger service out of Moorgate. as for the last train, well Moorgate is still able for ECS until December 2009 but NR will be working on the tracks during this time. Seems a few people got their backs up because of the fact it wasn't the last service, it was never supposed to be that. It was an extra put on for us all to enjoy apart of railway history.

No, if they wanted the best quality picture possible they'd not use flash :lol:

Example of class 33 taken with flash - note the reflectors are illuminated! it can also mess up the white balance.

I wouldn't say that the last train in or out was packed, managed to get a seat both ways. It was a worthwhile event to attend, though I only managed to get there at the last minute due to a bit of a result work-wise

Just realised that I forgot to upload my couple of pictures yesterday; no flash required, 1600 ASA and a noise reduction program are all you need.

What are the plans for the branch? I read somewhere that it would be severed at Farringdon with the Thameslink Programme... is the whole branch going to be lifted? If so, any ideas on what will happen to the line and its structures?

Out of interest, why was yesterday the last day (March 22nd) when the last train in passenger service was actually on Friday?

I saw yesterday that on the GN side, they've had to put up messages to point out that the GN route into Moorgate is still running. Presumably the press reported in such a way that people may have assumed First Capital Connect was no longer running to Moorgate - not specifically the Thameslink route!

Severed at Farringdon, but Moorgate will still be used as a stabling point until tracks are lifted

Last passenger service was on Friday. Moorgate branch isn't served on weekends

I suspected that to be the case, but it still begs the question - why announce the closure on that date? It's not as if the last passenger train ran Friday and on Sunday the track was being ripped up. We all know it isn't technically closed yet.
