I'm looking to compile a list of how to save money when travelling with each TOC, hopefully specific to each TOC rather than more general savings made with railcards, advance fares and group save tickets etc

Here are a couple of examples:

Thameslink Great Northern - Cheaper London to Brighton tickets (for now - are these going to disappear in 2015?) Cheap Stevenage to London tickets via Hertford. (Cheaper still if you split at Bowes Park)

East Coast - Loyalty scheme (not sure what's happening with this after March 2015)

It would be great to hear about other ways to save with the TOCs you travel with - this could include splits, cheaper alternative routes, loyalty schemes, TOC specific tickets or absolutely anything else.

Thanks,

Matt

Southern 4% cashback through quidco. Select "Gatwick Express" and jump direct to Southern's Mixing Deck in the same browser window.

I didn't see that one, no, thanks for pointing it out. Does anyone know what's going to happen with the Thameslink only fares to Brighton from London? Are they going to disappear when the super franchise kicks-in?

The problem with a thread like this is that TOCs already have spies on this forum and that past experience suggests strongly that any good-value fares revealed in public on the forum will be looked at and removed if they do not like it. If you are after good value fares, it is far better to post your journey details on a case-by-case basis and people may then send you relevant ticket details if appropriate (especially ones offering exceedingly good value) in private.

This is not our preferred approach to offering advice but we have been forced into this in order to keep prying eyes from the TOCs away from useful tickets which should then hopefully last longer.

It's already decided that they must disappear. The TSGN franchise specification explicitly required that they be withdrawn.

Similarly, the incoming franchisee is required to do something about the 'London Thameslink' destination, because it is an anomaly in being available from the north of the Thameslink route only.

I think they've misunderstood that requirement as they seem to be going about it by cancelling most of the trains;)

I don't think this "bug" is working any more. At least it isn't for me.
