I got the train from Biot (outside Nice) to Monaco in April. A very nice route along the South Coast of France.

Monaco station has two through platforms and feels like a cavern. It's like a very big cave and yet it's at the top of the Principality!

Just what its like as a station really and how regualr the trains are?

As I recall, there's a very regular and well used service through Monaco.
It runs along the coast through delightful places such as Eze and Beaulieu (worth a visit for a walk, meal, drink, sightseeing, boat trips or overnight stay, and a fraction of the cost of Monaco), clinging onto the dramatic cliff face before it turns inland at Nice. Usually double deckers (but not always). I've found them to be pretty busy by Nice.

We visited Monaco-Monte Carlo in 2008. There is a very good local service from Ventimiglia to Nice, with longer distance trains as well.

There are three entrances tot he station - at the top, middle and lower levels of the actual town. We went back into the station via the middle entrance, which is just up some steps from the harbour where all the posh yachts are. IIRC, the lower entrance is further to the west.

It is a large place, and it's well worth visitng Monaco if you happen to the area.

Imagine a Paris Metro station, and then double all the dimensions. The old station was a typical French-style building outside the western entrance.

I was there a couple of week back and there were 3 platforms at Monaco-Monte Carlo. An island platform and 1 on the south side of station which didn't see many trains compared to the others but agreed it was a very nice journey

Thank god I'm not going senile at the age of 26, lovely station, don't like the stairs down to St Devote though

Interesting - looks very similar in style to the RER E underground stations (Magenta, Haussman).
