MOM Application

Hi everyone. I've recently applied for a MOM job at a nearby DU. On the vacancy is says (Grade 7 with possibility of GPR 4% FP) can I just ask what that is please? I know what various MOM'S duties are RIO etc etc but not sure what that means. I currently am an operative in the pway but often am in charge when our Technician's and Team Leaders are off. Will they take a pway operative serious? It's just that ive been told I've not much chance if I'm not from S&T and no signalling experience. Having just done the 30 question assessment whilst applying I did have to answer no to about 3 of the questions, will this automatically make me unsuccessful for the role?

In my area, one of the MOMs came straight from being a P-Way worker, so I'd say being P-Way is not a barrier to stepping up to be a MOM.

I’d imagine GPR might be general purpose relief? The 4% is an added flexibility premium.

GPR is General Purpose Relief. So you will not have a set roster, but should know a week in advance what shifts you are doing.

4% is the Flexible Premium (FP) as a result of this lack of stability. Grade 7 is part of the grading system (1 being lowest, 10 highest) and there is a link somewhere of the pay scales but I can’t find it right now.

Brilliant thank you for the replies. A weeks notice would be find with me to be honest. Are MOM'S typically rostered 4 on 4 off with 12 hour shifts? I read that somewhere but can't find it again.

MOMs have all sorts of backgrounds. I know some who were S&T, some who were pway, one who was a storeman, some who weren't railway at all. Equally I know lots of S&T who have been unsuccessful.

Good to know I'm not going to be ruled out just because of my current role then. A few of the older lads I worked with assumed that would be the case.

Hi everyone. So I don't have to make another thread I'd just like to ask a few more questions.

What's a typical day like being a MOM?
In my mind, MOM's are a respond unit. Bridge strikes, trespassers, animals on track, gate open. Also start investigations when things happen etc...what else do they do? I was told they check SSOW packs, PLB boards in possessions and the like, is that true?


Also, In the interview, I was told I may have to give a 10 minute demonstration on a subject of their choosing, but what else I'd involved in a typical MOM interview?
