Model trains weel slipping

Hello
Today many of my single drive bogied Hornby models (pendolino,class87) have been wheel slipping over some track on my layout there is a join there between the two boards.And this has only started today. Am thinking of replacing the track but would that slove the issue?
Can anyone help me?

On the Virgin Pendlino at least there should be traction tyres, it sounds like they have either come of or have become warn. Don't worry though, you can get replacements.

Check if the Class 87 has grooves in the wheels or has traction tyres, they will need replacing.

If it is sudden, then it is almost certainly traction tyre related, I believe the 87 and Pendolino both have the same motor and therefore both have traction tyres. It would be more noticeable where traction is required (around or after curves for example).

As stated tyres missing, give the track a good clean with meths or similar (not turps) in case there is oil on there

I have a hornby class 58 mark 1 build with only one driven axle on on the whole 6!! even wth tyres on that, it still strugles to move itself let alone a load:roll:

I've had two of them (Both 58001) they seem to run fine when you first got them, but quickly dwindle off.

I'm actually very impressed with the lack of wheel slipping on my (newish) Class 87, even when pulling 30 medium-weight trucks (yes, you read that right). It does indeed sound like you have a problem with the traction tyres. You might also want to run a track cleaner if you have one.

In case you're wondering exactly why I was hauling 30 trucks... my friend wanted to shunt a load of freight on his expansive model railway without moving them all by hand, in order to prepare for further "building works", so commissioned my loco as an experiment. It was not realistic for an 87 in IC livery, but it was surprisingly efficient, until the whole thing derailed on a set of faulty points.
