Model railway questions.

This is a place to ask question about model railways and the like. To answer questions you have to quote the question and then answer it in the quote to avoid confusion. First question:

Will two-rail hornby dublo engines work on modern hornby tracks with the basic controller included in train sets?

Yes although the wheels are very coarse and will probably ride on the sleepers, also the motors take a LOT of power which might be a problem with the low output from a train-set controller.

Question 2: What are traction tyres? Are they rubber tyres that goes on model loco wheels?

Basically, yes.

Yes they are a little rubber band that sits in a groove on the wheel to aid traction, they also pick up all the dirt on the track and spread it all the way around the track .
A better way is to replace the wheels with ones without a groove and then add a bit of weight around the drive bogie, the result is the same pulling power without the dirt problem.
