What is Kineton used for? I noticed on Google Maps (probably out-of-date) a number of tube trains in the sidings amongst the other items of rolling stock. Anyone know what type they are and why they were there?

IIRC, I think LU/LT used Kineton to store most, if not all, of the 1983 stock when they were withdrawn, but correct me if I'm wrong. Looking at the pic, it looks to me like new 1995/1996 stock, but like you said, this must have been taken a while back, as all the units are in service on the Northern & Jubilee lines. Finally, in the top & bottom sidings, that looks like the old Nightstar stock that was transferred to Canada. Now that was a good few years ago.

It's a huge military ammo dump, nobody on the civilian side knows exactly what is in there, although as everyone knows rolling stock is kept under safe storage within the grounds.

I have asked ex military personal when is in there, with no details forthcoming, except that I got the impression it was significant.

haveing a look at the pics and comparing them there is not much difference, what line ran 6 coach trins, as londonunderground is not my forte. could it be ex 1983 jubille line stock , were they ever painted in lu colours.

Are the differet LU lines, or could 1983 stoik not have been cascaded to a line with older stock....as happens on heavy rail?

The place is rammed out with Mk2 coaching stock these days.

I had a guided tour in 2002 and I know people who have got around since, when I went around the following was there, there was a strict photography code that means I can not post any of the pics online

whilst the 1995 stock was being manufactured, Alsthom was able to manufacture more trains than LU could commission and store, so they were stored at various locations whilst they were pending delivery.

The ex VXC stock mostly went to Kineton

Class 92s went there when new for some reason I'm sure other new rolling stock has gone there too for storage

Ah, that makes sense. I don't think any of the 1983 stock units made it out of the plain grey did they?

the 'lick' of paint along with the 'shattered glass' effect on the floors!

Mind you, they probably found more than just glass on those trains. Any train left in South Harrow rarely comes out in the same condition it went in.
