'Duchess of Sutherland' and 'Mayflower' are confirmed to join Pannier 9466 at the MNR's Steam Gala Weekend, and there is still the possibility of another steam loco attending.

Preliminary details of the weekend, which include a Friday evening 'Breckland Fryer' fish & chip special and a Saturday night 'Heart of Norfolk' dining train are now available.

And, in a new departure for the MNR, steam footplate rides are being offered on the locos taking part in the Gala - these must be pre-booked. So if you fancy a footplate ride on 'The Duchess', get in quick!

All the current details, including the fares, are shown on the MNR website, but the full timetable details will not be available until nearer the date of the event.

£19 on top of the gala tickets for the breckland fryer. Ouch. Shame.

But we'll be there on the Friday and lineside on the Saturday!

I'm awaiting clarification from our Catering Manager, but in some previous instances there has been limited accommodation available for non-dining Rover Ticket holders when the 'Breckland Fryer' has run in the evening at the end of a Gala Day event.

We now have a 'Big Four' Steam Gala at the MNR on 19th -21st July, with representatives of designs that operated with each of the Big Four pre-nationalisation Railway Companies.

After consultation with our Catering Manager, I'm now pleased to confirm that both the 'Breckland Fryer' on Friday 19th and the 'Heart of Norfolk' on Saturday 20th July will convey limited non-dining accommodation available to holders of valid Steam Gala One Day (or longer period) Rover Tickets boarding for a 'extra' round trip.

Be advised though that access to buffet/bar facilities on board is likely to be limited to the dining customers only.

Passengers should also note that, as Wymondham Abbey Station will by then be closed and access locked up on both evenings, there will be no opportunity to board or alight from these trains at that point.

Hi

I'm driving up from Crawley (West Sussex) for this gala. Will be my first ever visit to the Mid Norfolk Railway. It's going to be a trip well worth making though I'm 100% sure of that. With regards to the footplate rides, is Mayflower likely to be available for this on the Saturday? If so I would be very interested in booking this option.

Kind Regards

Ben

Hi Ben,

The footplate ride bookings are being handled by the Ticket Office at Dereham, so please give them a call to check availability of any trips aboard 'Mayflower'. Call 01362 851723 during the daytime when trains are running, which currently is every day except Mondays and Fridays.
