Any idea which service it was on? 222102 was in service on Saturday after the return service from York failed (thats what it looked like on the fotopic pictures I seen anyway).

Close enough - it's 0440.

That would explain why I saw a 4-car Meridian whoosh past me on the Down Fast south of Harpenden at approx. 0655 this morning, so it must have been on the 0637 London St Pancras - Sheffield! :roll:

The 0620 Bedford - Brighton departed Luton Airport Parkway from platform 3 which is unusual as it's on the Up Fast, then we switched to the Up Slow at Harpenden Jn to let the 0517 Derby - London St Pancras overtake, back to the UF at Radlett Jn before switching (again) to the US at Carlton Road Jn (is that typical for this service?).

That would explain why I saw a 4-car Meridian whoosh past me on the Down Fast south of Harpenden at approx. 0655 this morning, so it must have been on the 0637 London St Pancras - Sheffield! :roll:

That means it will have been on the 0927 Sheffield-St Pancras (which was full to the max on a 5 car!)

It will also have been on the 1455 London-Sheffield and 1727 Sheffield-London if it stuck to it's diagram. Must have been a nice squeze!

The up 'Sheffield Continental' had a single 5 car Meridian (222014) in place of the usual 5+5. I tavelled from Loughborough, this morning, (07.42) and alighted at Leicester,where, judging by the number of folk boarding, things looked like they were going to get pretty crowded.

Arrived 1 minute early today.

Another thing: The HSTs that are used in place of Meridians on the Sheffield-London route are not quite able to keep the timings (I have seen some over 10 mins late). 1C30 0927 Sheffield to London being an example today.

Platform 3 at Bedford is just a platform loop, it's not the Up Fast, that is beside Platform 3.

Read my post again. I explicitly said it departed Luton Airport Parkway from Platform 3.

What is the reason for the 3 note high pitch alarm that is repeated three times in quick succession on board the East Midland Trains class 222. I have been travelling regular between Loughborough and Leicester, and return, and hear it on most journeys ?

HSTs have been moved off nearly all Sheffield services since December and are used on Nottingham fasts. 222/1s will be used on any services as far as I know but they will try and keep them off busy diagrams.

The beeps come from the passenger assistance alarm in the toilets, or from staff who want to communicate. I accidentally set one of the toilet alarms off with my leg once !

Passcom audible warning is two notes repeated three times over. Guard driver comms is three notes repeated three times over.
