Can anyone tell me what number power car the former MML HST which was named the "Neville Hill" was?

This train was named after the Neville Hill train depot in Leeds and usually (if not always?) ran the London St Pancras to Leeds (and Return leg) service stopping at Luton, Bedford, Wellingborough, Kettering, Market Harborough, Leicester, Lougborough, Derby and Beeston (all the stations along the traditional MML route) and then I think if I remember correctly going on to Alfreton, Langley Mill, Chesterfield, Doncaster, Wakefield Westgate and then Leeds taking 3 and a half hours.

Does anyone know what number it is now in use by EMT, and if it is still being used as the St Pancras to Leeds train? Many thanks in advance

I doubt the power car worked a specific service everyday, it will have worked any HST diagram which will have varied day to day. With EMT (if it is with them), it will still work any HST diagram, and this will vary day to day

It is 43049, still in use with East Midlands Trains and still named "Neville Hill".

It is just an ordinary power car and so can work anywhere the EMT HSTs go so will spend most of its time on St Pancakes to Nottingham services but will end up at Leeds every few nights or so for maintenance.

I always saw the HST with red name plate "Neville Hill" on it, working the St Pancras to Leeds service, or if it wasn't this one it was another HST. I never saw Neville Hill on any other service (say for example, St Pancras to Nottingham). I don't have with me an old MML timetable so can't check.

125group.org.uk states here that 43049 Neville Hill remains an EMT power car.
In normal operation, a St Pancras - Leeds train would not serve both Derby and Beeston.

The Power Car 43049 will have worked any MML HST service. Now it will work any EMT HST opertated service, most of which are London - Nottinghams

Just to add to this, all of MMLs HSTs were serviced at NH regularly. This is why some services (all HSTs) start from/terminate at Leeds in the early morning/late night.

Point i'm trying to make is that all of the HSTs would have run the London - Leeds route regularly, if not on a daily basis - not just 43049 with it's nameplate. During the day it would have also been diagrammed to run STP - NOT/SHF runs. There was a point not too long ago when HSTs were mainly on Sheffield diagrams and then that got changed so Sheffield was mainly served by 222s and Nottingham HSTs. One or two HSTs do (currently) stable at Cricklewood during the day but the rest do run between London and the Midlands during the day.

And today 43049 is working as part of set NL11 with 43066 at the other end. It's diagram is:
1C22 0741 Sheffield - St Pancras, - stables at Cricklewood -
1D32 12.15 St Pancras - Nottingham,
1B53 14.28 Nottingham - St Pancras,
1D57 17.15 St Pancras - Nottingham,
1B78 19.28 Nottingham - St Pancras,
1D81 22.00 St Pancras - Nottingham - then empty to Derby Etches Park.

One also sits on etches park and is brought out in major disruption from what I can tell.

Sounds like a hot spare, and yes, I believe it's based around Derby. Since that EMT HST set moved to EC on a permanent basis I don't think there's any slack in the fleet any more.

Normal practice is for them to return to Leeds no less frequently that every other night and I believe that is how all the regular diagrams are largely arranged. Overnight they otherwise stable at either Derby or Cricklewood. As well as the trains from/to Leeds in passenger service there are also empty workings between Sheffield or Derby and Neville Hill.
