New member here - wondering if anyone has the same thoughts as me about the difficulties (i.e. the cost) associated with getting the wires into Nottingham. After a bit of pressure, Network Rail confirmed to me that to get the wires under the Carrington St bridge and the station concourse it would be necessary to lower the track. This also means lowering the platforms - the cost of which has probably given Whitehall cold feet and led to the 'pause'!

I believe however that this is an opportunity for a comprehensive redevelopment of the station to provide a multi-mode transport hub, with costs being shared. Trains, buses and trams. With lowered tracks the station could be redesigned with more parallel platforms. thereby removing the need for in-line platforms, and a new entrance on to Station St near the centre. At the moment passengers have to walk almost 400m from the bay platform at the east end before they can exit through a barrier. There is a Public Right of Way footbridge across the station which also connects the platforms but this leads to extensive fare evasion. Above the platforms a concourse would be shared with bus passengers, with the buses themselves being on a level above the concourse, entering from London Rd. Buses at the moment terminate at a variety of small sites around the city where frequently the are no welfare facilities for crews. With all routes (the trams are there already) in one place interchanging would be easy.

It's a bold plan but it as a retired civil/structural engineer I'm happy that it's feasible. Anyone with me?

There are a few threads on this subject. I will try and link later. Probably best in the speculative section. Welcome to the forum btw. Look forward to your contributions.
