But, I can only find 91 exteriors, no MKIV interiors.

Select Pictures at the top right. Scroll the left scroll bar down til you get to the Union Flag with 'UK' on it and click on it. Select 'Car' then 'Mk4' and have a browse through the subdirectories, there are several pictures in there.

I have to say that at least visually the Mallard refurbishment certainly improved the interior environment (can't comment on seat comfort), I mean what's going on with all those glass(?) partitions throughout the carriage!?

What's wrong with the glass partitions, I thought they were one of the funkiest bits of the mark 4 interior.

As for the seats, they were very badly worn by the time the Mallard refurb was instigated, and I always thought they were much too thin, and too hard, for an Intercity train. In Intercity days the appearance wasn't too bad, but by the time GNER were holding the reins and the seat moquette had completely faded there was very little visual impact to be had from the interior of a mark 4. The Mallard refurbishment is a big improvement all round.

That "railfaneurope" site has really brought back the memories. I knew I could remember mixed formation IC/GNER liveried mark 4 rakes at the start of privatisation, but hadn’t been able to find any photos to prove it.

What's wrong with the glass partitions, I thought they were one of the funkiest bits of the mark 4 interior.

It just seems to me to just break up the interior unnecessarily and doesn't look good at all, perhaps if I had seen (or could remember) the original layout for myself rather than just some pictures I would have different feelings about it. But going on those images I don't like it.

It's one thing I miss in the Mark 4 First Class
The glass also helped cut down noise levels across the coach
The only glass retained was in the end compartment

If you ask me - the Mallard refurbishment brought standard class up a notch and first class down a notch. [Although a refurb was needed and the plug sockets and wifi were a good call all round.]


But I do miss that old first class mk4 feel, with the steely grey interiors, chrome metal bars, smoked glass partitions, squashy cushion head rests, 'Great North Eastern Railway' seat covers.

Those were the days...

Cant beat the good old glass partitions. Agree that first class is now worse.
