MKC - Cheltenham & return 21st August

For some reason Darlo are playing on Sunday at Cheltenham v Gloucester. Can anyone suggest a decent fare/route that sees me travel on HST as much as possible? I will need to go from MK/Bletchley to Cheltenham and back.

The big problem seem to be the ability to get to Brum to catch the early train to Cheltenham

I thought one way via Paddington and the other via Brum. I will be a lone adult & I have a network gold card if that helps

I have been looking into this a bit more and the bets fare i can find is an off peak return for £45. I can get decent fares for all legs apart form the return from Birmingham to MKC!

Can anyone suggest anything better?

Firstly, have you consulted the frequently requested diagrams thread to see which NE-SW trains are HSTs? There are more southbound HSTs than northbound.

yes: I can make 2 of the trains ( might well be the same one both ways) via Tamworth on the way out and Brum on the way back.
