Were any ever painted in INTERCITY exec livery? I know mk1s were and air con mk2s.....

Not that I'm aware of as by that time none of them were included in the Intercity sector. I think they were all used by Regional Railways and perhaps Scotrail.

Two Mk 2 BFK's that were used with Mk 1 FK's on the London-Perth Motorail InterCity colours; a small number of Mark 2A BFK's used with Mk 1 TSO's on Charter services gained InterCity colours; and a small number of Mk 2C BFK's used on CrossCountry services gained InterCity colours.

Platform 5 in the late 1980's/early 1990's used to print their books claiming a small number of TSO's and BSO's had gained InterCity colours, but this was never the case.

On the last 'proper' steam on the Met event in 2000 (1?) I remember a very tatty 1st class MK1 in swallow livery being used, could that have been one of the Motorrail ones?

I seem to have a vague recollection that there was a BSO in IC livery - 9438 rings a bell...

Quite a lot of charter division Mk1s had InterCity livery.

If I remember correctly early mk2 were used on the Harwich boat trains. In about 1990. I used to get them at Colchester as they stopped the morning one at about 8am so the Norwich could run fast

They must have been in blue grey. or I would have remembered them as something odd

That was in the days of smoking, one day there were some Nordic folk smoking something odd in one of thoes water pipe things. did not hang around, may have effected my working day ( for the better !)

Another BFK, Michael Harris's book "British Rail Mark 2 Coaches" says that:

Only a score or so of Mark 2, 2A, 2B and 2C vehicles were painted in InterCity livery

and has a (black and white) photo of BFK IC17093C in the Exec livery which my bumper book of coaches says was a Mark IIa lot number 30786 built in Derby in 1983 and scrapped in 1993
