There’s a useful thread here:Excluding the present charter sets used for railtours does anyone know when the last Mk1 restuarant cars (RB, RU, RF etc) ran on a scheduled service?
ThanksThere was a previous thread here but the RMB vehicles are not restaurant cars.
Were MK1 buffet cars used in some loco-hauled sets after privatisation?
I remember MK 1 buffet cars being used in loco hauled MK2 and 3 trains with Inter-City back in the early 1990s and they being in Intercity swallow livery. Were MK1 buffets ever used by Virgin or GWR in loco hauled sets and if so would they have been painted in Virgin or GWR livery?www.railforums.co.uk

When did the Mk1 RMB's and RBR's go out of use?
Hi there sorry if this as being asked before but. Could anybody shead some light on when the mk1 RMB's and the RBR catering vehicles went out of "mainstream" use. I have found some pictures of them in loco hauled train consists in the late 80's but was hoping they lasted into the early 90's Thank...www.rmweb.co.uk

Edit - Beaten to it!
If you're interested, the Mk1-derived buffet cars in Southern EMUs (class 421) continued up until around the Millennium (2000).
Thanks, seems that's the last use....I believe SWT 421s all lost them by 1999 but the 412s retained them, albeit disused, until about 2002 when the surviving sets were reformed.
