Been reported that Mitie, has won a 4 year deal with GWR for Facilities Management at 203 stations and 6 depots, and that 26 people have TUPE to Mitie. Unclear if anything will change for passengers

Mitie has been awarded a new four-year contract with Great Western Railway (GWR) covering engineering maintenance work at 203 stations and six depots on the 1,997-kilometre network.

The train operator runs more than 1,600 services daily, across 10 English counties and South Wales.

A team of 26 colleagues have TUPE-transferred to Mitie to deliver a range of engineering services and the group’s Plan Zero consultants have attended site visits to identify opportunities for energy reduction.

To support the transition to the new contract, Mitie has developed an engineering plan led by a Critical Environment and Technical Assurance (CETA) team to ensure that all stations remain fully functional and compliant with safety standards for GWR’s 80 million annual passengers.

Dan Guest, managing director, Technical Services, Mitie, said: “We’re proud to be maintaining some of the most iconic stations in the UK from Paddington to Penzance. Our colleagues, from engineers to ESG experts, will work together to help GWR deliver sustainable passenger journeys.”

Best of luck to GWR. Mitie have won a lot of big contracts over the last few years but then haven’t been able to hire and retain the staff needed to fulfill them. I know of at least one large nationwide company that has ditched them and is taking legal action against them.

A new four year maintenance contract would presumably have needed DfT to OK it? If so, maybe it’s a small clue as to what might not fall under the GBR umbrella.

Not really a clue, the contract will just novate to GBR at the appropriate point in time.
