Missing stop board Salisbury

Travelling to Salisbury today on an Exeter St Davids service. Arrived at platform 3. There is a 2-4 stop board and a 6-8 stop board.

Where is a 5 coach train supposed to stop ??

Had a good look and there is not one there. Did it fall off ?

AFAIK the 6-8 stop board, you normally stop at the higher car marker or the S car Marker.

Probably at the 6/8 board, or go to the end of the platform if in doubt.

Do the other platforms have car stop markers for 5-car trains? Do 5-car trains regularly call at the station?

Car stop markers are usually only installed to cater for expected train formations, and not for every possible train length in 1-car increments, so a platform might have markers for 2 and 4 car trains, or for 4, 8 and 12 car trains, but not for every number in between.

Yes they do. 5 cars are pretty common on that route. The stop boards are usually of the format 2-4. So 2, 3 or 4 car trains stop there.

I would have expected the boards to be 2-4 and 5-8. Maybe an oversight.

Looking at today's timetable on RTT, a lot of the 5-cars are attaching/detaching portions to/from 7 or 8s.

Some Cardiff-Portsmouth trains are 5car, used to be more, and might be more again next year if some 158s are released by 175s

Never has been one on platform 3 in the down direction. Doesn't cause anyone any issues.

Seems pretty common sense that you'd stop at the higher board.

Just to add i think someone has read this as there is now 2-5 car stop marker at Salisbury
