Missing Japanese Shinkansen services?

Hi all,

I've just been going through my Japanese photos from August this year, using JR's timetables and the useful "hyperdia" website to find the origins and destinations of all the trains I photographed (mainly bullet trains). Anyhow, I managed to find no trace of certain services now I'm doing the big flickr upload. Can't seem to find any trace of the services "Sakura 589" from Himeji to Kagoshima-Chuo, or the"Nozomi" services 171 to Hakata, 354 to Tokyo, and 353 to Shin-Osaka (all from Nagoya). Does anyone here know where they might go from and to?

The Shinkansen timetable can vary wildly according to the season. During peak holiday times there are many more trains put on than on other days. So if you are looking at the current timetable, it may not reflect what you did in August.

The Sakura trains generally run Shin-Osaka to Kagoshima-Chuo, and if you got it from Himeji it will definitely have run that route. Some early morning / late evening ones have shorter routes, and there has been some that have run Hakata to Kagoshima only during the day (but that wouldn't have gone through Himeji).

Most Nozomi routes run the entire distance of Tokyo to Hakata, unless it is a seasonal or late evening train. If you still have your reservations, you will be able to compare the station names written in Japanese on your reservations, to this timetable.

As WideRanger says, there are daily dozens of extra trains run during holiday periods, which over a long summer or winter holiday can amount to close to a thousand plus additional services. Based on a web search from multiple Japanese sources, these are the timings for the (extra) services in question. Please note that these are possibly old timings that may have been changed or eliminated.
