Missing connection with a rover ticket

Hello,

I am going to be in the West Midlands next week doing some gricing, so I was planning to get the 'West Midlands Day Ranger' to travel around the area.

I have also booked an advance ticket at 17:48 from Crewe to Penrith, although I may get on this train at New Street and use the ranger up to Crewe.

Either way, if I missed that train due to delays on a local train that I was taking using the Ranger ticket, am I covered as having missed a connection and able get a later service to Penrith, as I would be with a direct point-to-point ticket?

You will be covered, provided that you have a valid itinerary and minimum connection times are observed.

Are you sure? I can't see such a train next week, either midweek or next sat or next Sun.

Oops actually the 1708 arriving at 1848... need to be more careful on the day!

You could, however as long as you know which trains you intend to catch and it is a valid itinerary, all should be fine.

What is the procedure for if you miss the last train? And if its a taxi where does it go to because surely it could be to anywhere in the area of validity?

If you've come off a train and have a valid ticket, and missed the connection they should honour it.

If you've turned up at the station demanding a taxi because you've missed the last train - no chance.

Chances of someone changing their plans last minute because of missed connection to take advantage of a free taxi? Quite small, I'd have thought. What are you going to do when you get to your newly decided destination?
