Missing Cambrian services on 23/10

Hi folks, hoping someone might have some insight. I’m looking at a trip on the Cambrian to Harlech on Fri 23 October. There are no engineering works announced, but there are also no departures from Shrewsbury towards Machynlleth for about 6 hours (1J09 at 10:27 then at 1J21 16:30).

Even these limited services don’t connect to the Cambrian Coasters - 11:44 arrival to a 12:51 departure, and 17:42 to 19:04.

Have I missed some engineering works, or timetable alteration for the lack of rolling stock? It seems to start Sunday 19 Oct and last until that Friday.

Thanks

The services that do appear on RTT at Welshpool for 20/10 are Aberystwyth only to Shrewsbury only, suggesting that’s part of the 197 implementation maybe? That plan seems to have been a moveable feast so maybe there’s more to upload?

There is no engineering works during that period. It’s to do with 197 entry into service the timetable will be as per usual other than short notice changes if going to Birmingham where a change at Shrewsburg is required. Any cancellations on the day will be down to the usual reasons train fault etc etc.

Something's going on that week, looking for New Street to Aberystwyth on the clunky TFW site and the 06:22 and 08:22 are not showing at all. Back to normal the following week it seems.

Indeed. The 0622 and 0822 TfW departures from Birmingham New Street both seem only to be running as far as Shrewsbury.

The inability of the modern railway structure to transition from one fleet of rolling stock to a new fleet without months/years of disruption (some would term it chaos) is a disgrace.

Did you see the post two above yours?
It suggests little or no disruption:

I was making a more general point about TfW and the lengthy transition to 197 operation, which is referred to in the post you refer to.

Whatever particular details of such disruption there are, these haven't been set out plainly in this thread, and it also would be likely to be rather off topic.

There is, clearly, a question about data integrity relevant to this thread. Unfortunately STP being done at much too late notice, when the issues were known about or were reasonably foreseeable at 20-16 weeks out, to get them right at that point, is a common issue.

So the fact that only four trains in each direction are shown in journey planners for the entire day is just a glitch while the alterations are made and will be resolved by the 23rd?

Yeah - what?

Why has the timetable been left in this state?

I wonder if it's less of a technical glitch and more that changes have come through last-minute, because the people leading the training and testing didn't wish to respect a bid deadline...

Is everything normal for this coming week?
This has been going on for a while. For the week of 21 Sep they weren't loaded until shortly before. My understanding is the PDF timetables remain correct https://tfw.wales/sites/default/files/2026-09/1_Cambrian_September-2026_V1.pdf and this is only to do with potential train changes at Mach or Shrewsbury (without any implications for arrival times anywhere)
