Missing a connecting train - Are you forced to buy another ticket? (weather)

Hello everyone. on Friday I am travelling from Harlow to Carmarthen. (Harlow - Liverpool Street, Liverpool Street to Paddington via Tube, Paddington to Swansea, Swansea to Carmarthen).

If say, the Harlow train is severely delayed and I miss my Paddington train to Swansea, does this mean I will be forced to buy another ticket? This is worrying me due to the weather conditions as of late and that there appears to be a lot of service disruption at the moment; on Friday, the weather doesn't appear to be improving.

I currently only have £10 in my bank account until my student loan goes in, so I cannot afford another ticket. Who would I speak to to get advice about this matter? I just want information in advance so I can prepare myself for worst case scenario

On Xmas eve I paid for a taxi to the tube to eradicate them from my plans, alas it would see you don't have this option

No. If you are using one Advance ticket from Harlow to Carmarthen, the Conditions of use include:

• You must be at the departure station shown on your ticket in good time to catch the train. If you miss the first train on which you are booked for any reason, a new ticket must be purchased.
• If delays occur while travelling, you will be allowed to take the next available train(s) to complete your journey.

Absoutely no need to buy a new ticket - on the contrary, if you are extensive delay the Railway may compensate you, not charge you extra (you're thinking of taxi services )

What's your itinerary?

Providing the itinerary allows sufficient time to cross London, you needn't worry.

I'd suggest the quickest way from Harlow to Paddington is not to take the cut-and-cover Underground lines (which are not, in fact, tubes) but to take the Victoria Line tube from Tottenham Hale, changing at Oxford Circus for the Bakerloo line tube to Paddington.

if you are worried get your ticket endorsed at the information point in Paddington, but this should not be strictly necessary, but will give you peace of mind.

Thanks all you've helped put my mind at ease a little bit.

At Liverpool Street I'm allowed 55 minutes for the Underground. The Tube doesn't take long usually (around 20 mins tops) so there shouldn't be any problems there. I was more worried about the Harlow train messing everything up but there doesn't appear to be any delays with Greater Anglia (atm anyway!)

And it is an Advance ticket Harlow-Carmarthen yup with reservations as well.

55 minutes is the minimum amount of time to allow for transfers from Liverpool Street to Paddington (at most times of day - before the morning peak, or after the evening peak, add 5 minutes), so you will be covered if late arrival of the train from Harlow causes you to miss the train from Paddington. Of course, if you have an advance ticket all the way, the journey planner will choose appropriate connecting trains for you.

If you have seat reservations between Harlow Town and Liverpool Street, then you may not take yorkie's advice of alighting at Tottenham Hale, unfortunately.

Although Tottenham Hale is a permitted place to begin a cross-London transfer, the electronic Routeing Guide data only has tube connections from Tottenham Hale to National Rail stations on the Victoria line for some reason, so the electronic journey planners will never suggest alighting there to get to Paddington.

The cut-and-cover lines aren't that bad going westbound from Liverpool Street as there are no conflicting moves at the junction at Baker Street. There is still a possible wait at Edgware Road though. Given 55 minutes are allowed, I wouldn't worry too much.

If it is a through ticket from your origin to the destination then there is absolutely nothing to worry about. You should be conveyed on the next available service if you are delayed while travelling.

I would stick with going into Liverpool Street and taking the Sub-Surface Lines (Met, Circle, etc) as your itinerary states. If you jump at Tottenham Hale, depending on the timings, you may not have a valid itinerary and/or may have more explaining to do at Paddington, so just to be on the safe side.
