Hi everyone.

A friend of mine has an AP today for a train, which was showing as cancelled on NationalRail.co.uk, so he didn't go to the station. It now transpires that the service wasn't cancelled and NRE was wrong. Do the TOC have an obligation to convey him on the next service, and can he claim Delay Repay?

It could have been re-instated at late notice and, with a strict reading of the rules, they'd need to be on that train, however a word with the guard of the next service might be fruitful, alternatively, contact with the customer relations team may 'get a result'.

If the train ran late and he was on it, he may have been entitled to delay repay, but as he missed it and presuming they allowed you to travel on a later train, I don't think he would be in a position to claim anything.

Well it now turns out that he made the train after all as it left late after being reinstated. So this all hypothetical now.

In which section of NRE was it showed as cancelled?

I would still be at the station by the allotted time just in case, the contract is a 2 way thing and if you dont keep to your part (by being there in good time) then the TOC would be under no obligation to carry/reimburse you.

I would always rely on the mark one eyeball over any app every time.
