Thanks. So, as they are all Advances, if you do miss a connection, you should speak to staff and ask them to suggest what you should do. If they say to use a TOC that isn't the one the Advances are for, then it's best to get them to give you that instruction in writing. All the stations are staffed so you should be able to find someone easily enough.

Whilst of course an unhelpful member of staff might suggest you need to stick to those TOC restrictions, even if this means having to catch a taxi down the line, I'd like to hope that most staff would apply common sense and endorse your tickets for the next direct Avanti service if you miss your connection at Crewe. If you miss your connection in Manchester it's not such an issue - there are frequent Northern services to get you at least as far as Preston.

There is an hourly Northern Manchester-Lancaster, most go to Barrow but some to Windermere. Worst case it is probably best having the funds to purchase a single Lancaster-Oxenholme (not expensive) to board an Avanti for that section if they won't endorse your ticket. You could then seek to claim that back.

There are some itineraries which split ticketing websites will give me a split with a paper ticket wholly within London zone 1-6 to make the cross-London transfer. This is a known rip off. Whenever I see such tickets offered I will not buy it, and make the cross-London connection by PAYG.
That's fine. I firmly believe you do not lose any rights by doing this, but you may find you need to put in a lot of effort if a dispute with a train company arises.

I would have no choice but to hail a taxi to Oban. Who would pay for it , LNWR who caused the initial delay ? I can envisage it being quite a arduous task try to claim a Glasgow-Oban taxi fare from them !
Don't hail a taxi! Rail staff should sort this for you and I would expect the taxi to be organised from somewhere en route as it's possible to get part of the way (the most congested bit) by rail.

As others have said, if a delay occurs early in the journey, staff should bear in mind the necessity to keep any delay to a minimum given your onward connection to Oban
