Minimum connection time at Chester

Hi all

Looking to head to Rhyl tomorrow evening, fine going there but coming back I'd need to be taking the 2216 to Chester, arrives 2255 and the 2300 to Liverpool Lime St from there, NRE seems to think a 5 minute connection is fine? If I do head over to Rhyl, I can't really leave any earlier, is the 5 min minimum connection time correct and am I knackered if the incoming train is late?

Chester is minimum five minutes yes.

Not knackered as such, but you could be a couple of hours late if you miss the Liverpool train. The 23:22 to Manchester connects with a Liverpool rail replacement bus in Earlestown.

But that's if things go wrong. They tend not to, and you have a pretty good chance of just having a cross-platform change when you reach Chester.

It wouldn't be on a Rhyl-Liverpool ticket, but I'd ask the station staff what to do if you miss your connection in Chester. They'd probably arrange a taxi (there are always a few hanging around outside the station), but going via Earlestown is another option.

For what it's worth, 5 mins is in my opinion a little too low for Chester. If something can go wrong it often will, and I've been in similar situations there myself resulting in missed connections. At least for me it was in the middle of the day!

Although, as you said if you have no other options, then you might just have to cross fingers...
