Assuming the weather looks OK we want to go to Kew Gardens for the day on Wednesday 20th May. I do know about the tube strikes this week and that the overground is potentially going to be busier than normal because of that.
2 passengers each with a senior railcard, an oyster card with senior railcard added and a senior bus passes.
Assuming we leave from MKC, we would like to either leave MKC on the 9:29 Avanti, which doesn't stop at Watford Junction, or the 9:30 LNR.
Seems a bit daft to go into Euston on the Avanti, then back out to Willsden on the overground and then Mildmay line to Kew so favouring LNR.
I had assumed MKC-Watford Junction, WTJ- Willsden Junction, Willsden Junction to Kew Gardens but both National Rail and the forum's site suggest MKC-Harrow and Wealdstone to then take Lioness line to Willsden J. Is there any advantage in changing trains at Harrow rather than Watford Junction?
I'd prefer to change at Watford on the return as then we may have options of picking up an Avanti rather than a LNR.
Off peak day travel card Z1-6 showing as £43.40 for the two of us (restriction LW doesn't look to have any effect on our planned journeys) or off peak day return for £45.50 (restriction CO again doesn't appear to affect us).
We could start at Bletchley, which is now in the contactless zone but we wouldn't be getting the railcard discount.
