Milton Keynes (MKC) to Durham (DHM) splitting points

Hi all,

Can anyone suggest any splitting points for MKC-DHM leaving after 5pm on Friday 25 Feb, and returning as late as possible on Sunday 27th.

The East Coast site has a route via London at £23.80 each way (with Y-P railcard), but does anyone know any cheaper routes/splits?

I've had a go at the route via Manchester, but I can't seem to get any cheaper options.

£23.80 would that be their cheapest advance ticket with the East Coast discount applied?

You could try London Midland to Birmingham or Stoke and then Crosscountry or Northern.

I'm not really sure about the routes/ fares up there but someone else can probably help.

Yes, that's an EC Advance with an online discount.

1833 Durham - Birmingham 2145 £15.50 XC advance, Y-P
2230 Birmingham - Milton Keynes 2338 £2.30 Virgin advance, Y-P

Total £17.80.

(Actually I don't think this is worth the hassle if you can get the 1702 Advance fare on East Coast for £23.80, as £2.15 more is probably a better deal, as you get to Durham an hour earlier and the connection in London is much safer. The 1819 is also a good train to get that fare on and if it's cancelled the next one is 1830!)

@Mildertduck, note that to get that TPE offer to work, you need to search for the tickets as a single journey, rather than as a Manchester > Durham return: it won't offer the discounted advance tickets if you search as a return.
