Can anyone help me with this one

Realtime trains no longer shows the 28th December. It it said the 15.12 from Lancaster got in at 17.59 but recent train times says 1756. This is the difference between a 1 hour and 2 hour claim so I do t want to get accused.

My original journey on the 28th Dec was
11.01 Millom (cancelled)
11.56 Barrow to Preston
13.29 Preston to london (cancelled)

So it had to be
12.16 Millom to Lancaster (delayed 54 mins at Millom)

15.12 Lancaster to Euston

Tickets attached

Avanti refused to pay me for a one hour claim when the doors opened 1hr late and I even took a photo showing the clock. Their argument was it was only 59 mins

By all means claim for 120 mins if you are confident but Avanti may disagree and you won't find it easy to get them to pay up, especially if any systems show it as just under the threshold (they can be based on a train entering a section, rather than the actual arrival and certainly not the door opening time, but the customer services people are not likely to budge)

If you are in the right and want to fight any rejection you can escalate it to the ombudsman

Your arrival was 1757. Which means you were 1hr 58 late.

I think I've seen this sort of inconsistency before, where RTT first showed a later arrival then corrected to a slightly earlier one. I wonder if it is something to do with how the feed works? Alternatively I suppose the OP could have read the timetabled time incorrectly.

Either way it seems a 60 minute claim is due.

Haven't got the energy right now to fight them so I'll accept it as 1757!

Thr arrival times displayed by realtimettains and from the open data cannot always be relied upon to be 100% accurate, especially not if to-the-minute definition is required. It is occasionally the case that the times recorded aren't correctly offset so that they represent the time the train is in the platform.

Some trains are GPS fitted and this can actually record the arrival time because it knows when door release is given, but I don't think Avanti's trains are.

I've had times with SWR where I've recorded the train arriving into the platform because I know it's on the borderline of a 15-minute claim, and the official offsets tend to assume a much less "defensive driving" approach into Waterloo (RTT's are a bit better but still can't account for the sheer variability in drivers, along with the difference in speed between getting a clear run through to the platform and being held at the signal outside the station and crawling in). I record a video continuously from on the move into the platform, to door release, to seeing a clock. This method has always been successful for me on appeal (I've never had to go to the ombudsman).
