How do you people travel quite so much? 12CSVT accumulated over 50,000 miles - an average of almost 140 a day! How?!

Roll on the 2012 compo, because it means I can put in an honest effort again and not one that is ruined by my laptop. My target is 20th, but looking through the 2011 table even 40th looks like a stretch...!

Ok... Ignoring the DLR branch as requested above... 6369 miles was my final resting spot, my first unit this year was 101695 with 20069 giving the power on the Mid Norfolk Railway, my last unit was EMT 158777 between Ely and Norwich. I have spent £217.95 overall, which works out at £0.03 per mile, 30 days last year were occupied some way by trains, working out at an average of 212.3 miles for every day travelled, at an average of £7.265 per day out... Not bad :D

Well I've managed to do a grand total of 36,203 miles this year finishing in a respectable 7th place, now if only The Posh can do the same I will be very very happy.

Look forward to 2012!

My travel year ended just after 23:00 last night on 350 249; just made it past 49,000 miles in the end as predicted.

Quite easy, my daily commute is about 66 miles - if I didn't work, I would probably be out and about a lot more than that! As previously mentioned, my leisure mileage is just short of 38,500 miles this year. Perhaps you missed my earlier post when I mentioned that my Austrian mate does over 100,000 miles a year (around 170,000kms) without tram and U bahn mileage (as he lives in a large city with both, that in itself would add up to a fair amount)

The final figure you have all been waiting for - 51,694 miles 51 chains. (If you're wondering how I manage it my daily commute is over 100 miles).

Last train journey of the year was 222007 on the 1900 St. Pancras - Bedford last night.

This is my highest total since 1994 (over 62,000 miles that year) when I used to make frequent trips to Scotland to scoop pairs of 37s on the sleepers.

My 2012 milage is due to start at 05:XX tomorrow morning for an early shift.

Well at 2274 miles, I've only travelled a short distance compared to some.

Last journey was on a 395 coming back from Canterbury to Ashford a couple of Saturdays ago. My last non-Ashford, non-LU journey was Greenford to Paddington on 10th December.

Does anybody have the mileage for the new DLR extension from Stratford International to Canning Town? I'm particularly interested in the short stretch to Stratford.

I managed a personal best this year of 14,107.5 miles (not slavish about the chains thing myself and just work to the nearest quarter). This despite only commuting to work by train on average once a fortnight, a round trip of 30.5 miles :)

Got to clear 15,000 miles in 2012 now, although I've got meetings in Strood on 6th Jan, Crawley on 10th and Bridgend on 13th, so will have over 1,500 miles in the book in less than a fortnight.

How the eff did you manage to spend so little? I spent that much in less than 5 weeks in 2011 on rail fares!

As for how I managed as much as I did, bear in mind over 5,000 of mine was on a 7-day ALR last year. I anticipate the same amount via such means or more this year, and it'll mostly be mileage accumulation on my first bash of the year so expect over 400 miles in a day. Watch out after payday, I expect a big bash will occur <D

Child and CHFAM tickets  and other offers such as Southern railways 25% discount on CDR's nationwide, FCC's complementary tickets among others :) Look at the spreadsheet for details https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc...nlFSHNlUmdrYUJSQ2R1NkE&hl=en&authkey=CM33-9YD

I probably haven't spent that much either due to RSH's vouchers, Rail Travel Vouchers (delay repay) and I have also received other goods such as MP3 downloads per ticket when bought through TakeTheTrain.co.uk

My daily commute is over 190 miles and that only got me to 8th place. :( Although I did have a period during the year when I was only commuting 104 miles a day. Which reduced the figures a bit.

Got round to working mine out today - 25767 miles, which is over 2000 less than last year. Had to estimate three lines (the Rowley Railway at Beamish, St Werburgh's Road on Metrolink, and the DLR Canning-Stratford International line), but in total, they only came to 10.5 miles by my estimates so I can't be too far out.

A self respecting 2201.75 miles for 2011, my sixth highest in 25 years of recordings.

I notice that there is a new "leader" for 2011 - Matthewfaulds with 567780 miles!

One thing that puzzles me is that I cannot find that user name in the list of members (unless I am doing something wrong) so can someone tell me how that figure can appear.

Not everyone appears on the members list you know, for example, banned people and people awaiting email confirmation (I think) don't.

I just assumed that everybody would appear on the members list so at least I now know how this could happen.

Thanks

Bearing in mind such mileage (567780) will entail an average of over 1500 miles a day, I call this impossibly high!

This has been noted by the staff team and appropriate actions will be taken in due course.
