I've finally got some mileage:

A grand total of 4.45 miles

I think it is down to a few thing. There are new members joining, such as IPT and myself from last year, and the member who posted above (sorry, I forgot your name!), and maybe more people entering from previous years, also see above.

Generally, my total looks set to get better with the Rother-Don Rambler this weekend, along with mileage of about 220, or so, to get there and back from preston on the day!

Despite having entries in my log for every single day since 3 January, my mileage is still only 210 as I haven't done any rail journeys outside London zone 5 this year! My journey to work is 2 miles and back is 1 mile 66 chains so it'll need a bit more than the daily commute!

I am one of the new members, just thought I would add up my total for the year. I have been helped as I travel every week from Bristol to Shirley (West Midlands) and back. My husband is the train buff, but I do a lot more miles his total for the year is just over the 200 as he came with me to Alexandra Palace on the weekend.

PS Also realised that if I would have gone to Alexandra Parade my total would be a lot higher.. just need to find out where it is!

I've given up, I can't keep on top of it. I've got to be doing nearly a thousand miles a week via everywhere twice sometimes, it's a total pain to input into RailMiles.

One might say thats because you have far more functionality by keeping your own basic logs based in Numbers/Excel etc Others might just say that logging mileage is a chore, it is for me!

I have to keep a log of what journeys I do for expenses purposes so I suppose I could translate that into miles if I could be bothered. 99.9% of my train travel is down to work anyway, catching a LM service from Marston Green to BHM for a shopping trip on the odd occasion doesn't seem worth recording

Actually following on from a suggestion by another poster in another thread, I've been keeping a note of the names/numbers of the 390s I use - just out of interest more than anything

The book's themselves aren't out of date!

Admittedly some of the spreadsheets might be by a year or ten tho...

I still have plenty of stuff from nearly 6 years ago to still process through RailMiles! So it's not a case of it being an out-of-date method of recording moves, just a case of it being quite the chore to go through several years of moves usually!

Up to 1,990 or so miles after a lot of mileage on 170s today. Not bad for £158 total this year so far!

Ergh, CBA calculating tonight... reckon on 300-400 at a guess. Do we take mileages listed in railtour programmes as gospel truth? I would try otherwise, but routes such as Stafford-Altrincham via Basford Yard, the Independents and Middlewich (as on today's Rother-Don Rambler) are a pain to put into RailMiles...

As always, check the sig, probably closer to midnight though.

It was a one off - however 2 or 3 years back it was reprinted in paperback form (but not updated), am unsure if it is still available or not.

I’m doing the full Galloway Galloper this weekend. Coupled with a run from Cherry Tree-Preston-Glasgow Central tomorrow and back on Sunday, maybe with a run out to Inverclyde before I return, it’s looking good! Back of the envelope calculations show about 650-700 miles being done

I’m just totting up my mileage for Friday, Saturday and today, looks to be 600-700, taking me up to well over 2,500. See the sig later, and a lengthy post in my 'Airdrie-Bathgate Service' thread for a report on my trip today, including being on the first ever eastbound train off the new Caldercruix station! My weekend comprised of Preston-Glasgow, the Galloway Galloper railtour and a return to Edinburgh via Bathgate for those wondering!

As the forthcoming week is half-term week ( ) there is likely to be a lot of mileage being racked up between now and next week. Each day proposed is as follows:
Saturday: To London via Preston, out to Diss and back via Manchester;
Sunday: To London and out to Hampton Court via Preston both ways;
Wednesday: To London via Preston both ways, and runs out to Denham from Paddington (PSUL), Heathrow Airport and maybe Reading, or further, on a HST;
Possibility: To London via Preston both ways, and runs up and down the MML to Leicester or further.

All is subject to confirmation, but should take me within touching distance of 5,000 miles in less than two months!

Keep going......I am aiming for 10,000 miles before too much longer (nearly 6,000 miles in January alone but bashing opportunities will be limited for the next month or so).

Anyway, enjoy your trips to London, don't forget to have a trip on the Watford - Euston DC lines whilst you are down here, diverted to run Watford Jn to Stratford via Primrose Hill all next week.

If you see this again please bring it to the attention of either me or Max, and we will remove their entry and look into banning them permanently from the Mileage Competition and maybe imposing other forum penalties. Of course I will always account for the fact that this may be an error or something (eg. typo) so no action other than sending a warning to the individual and removing their false mileage would happen in the first instance.

This competition is a bit of fun, but unfortunately some people with nothing better to do think it's okay to spoil it for everyone else and make themselves look like an idiot by making false entries. I don't know why they bother; it takes an Admin a matter of seconds to remove the fake mileage once it's been reported to us and makes the person doing it look like an idiot.
