Midland Railway coach livery

Please does anyone know: did the Midland Railway always paint their coaches Crimson Lake? Specifically, in the 1860s, when engines were still green? Thanks.

Your best bet is to get hold of a copy of "Midland Style", written by George Dow and with information on coaching stock by R E Lacey, published by the Historical Model Railway Society in 1975 and a second edition in 1978. This goes into considerable detail about both loco and coach liveries.

But in brief the answer to your question seems to be "Yes.".
